Acupuncture (TCM)
Acupuncture is a unique therapeutic method involving the insertion of extremely thin steel acupuncture needles into acupoints along Traditional Chinese Medicine's meridians pathways, to prevent and treat a variety of ailments. Treatment with our Registered Acupuncturist may also include acupressure, Tuina massage, tool-assisted Gua Sha soft-tissue release, and cupping. Treatment without the use of needles is optional. Eligible for direct billing with most major companies that include coverage for Registered Acupuncture treatment.
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is an educational process that teaches the student how to deal with unwanted and unnecessary tension producing habits that lead to misuse of the body. These habits are often the cause of ailments such as excess tension in the neck and shoulders, headaches, back and neck pain, postural issues, vocal problems and repetitive strain injuries. The Technique is taught one to one as each person requires individual attention in this process. Alexander Technique is a unique and personal study of movement and dynamic posture, not a healthcare treatment. It allows the individual to identify and understand their movement patterns , improve coordination, reduce patterns of excess tension, free up breathing, and develop deeper kinesthetic awareness. Alexander Technique is well known to be utilized by performers of all types, from public speakers, to athletes and actors looking to find more ease, confidence and self-awareness of their movements.

Chiropractic Treatment
Evidence-informed and patient-centered treatment by a Chiropractic Doctor may include soft-tissue treatment, Active Release Therapy, joint mobilizations & manipulations, nerve stimulation, and remedial exercise to treat musculoskeletal injuries & dysfunction.
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture
Contemporary Medical (aka Neurofunctional) Acupuncture involves stimulation of the peripheral nerves at specific anatomical points for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and movement disorders, sports injuries, functional problems, headaches, stress-related disorders, and chronic pain stemming from or exacerbated by dysregulation of the nervous system. Medical Acupuncture differs from Traditional Chinese Medicine in that it is mechanism-based, not disease-based, and follows Western prinicples of diagnoses and treatment. *Eligible for coverage on insurance plans that offer Chiropractic coverage.*
Cupping Therapy (RMT or TCM)
Cupping Therapy uses glass or silicon cups and vacuum pressure to apply varying levels of suction to specific points on the body. When performed by an RMT as part of a massage session, Cupping Therapy is often referred to as Tissue Distraction Release, using shear force (instead of compression) to release trigger points. When Cupping Therapy is performed by a Registered Acupuncturist, cups may be placed along meridian lines or Acu points to stimulate Qi and blood flow in accordance with Traditional Chinese Medicine practice. Both styles of cupping are used to distract congested tissues, targeting adhesion and restrictions, increasing local circulation and reducing pain.

Fascial Stretch Therapy
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a neurofunctional approach to recovery that uses assisted stretching and manual therapy targeted to the joints and connective tissues of the body, not just the muscles. Its proven ability to enhance nervous system response, increase strength, and improve mobility and balance make it particularly useful for chronic pain conditions, athletic performance enhancement, and injury rehabilitation. Functional Stretch Therapy is a specialized technique used by various healthcare providers. At Anatomica, FST is billed as Physiotherapy and performed as part of a physical therapy plan. Direct billing is available to all major plans.
Functional Conditioning
Functional conditioning is a proactive and personalized approach to movement therapy. Starting with an assessment of your health, goals, and current biomechanics, your doctor will prescribe a treatment plan that includes 1:1 strength and mobility training sessions and hands-on dynamic soft-tissue therapy, neuromuscular facilitation, and a progressive program for you to get the most out of your home or gym workouts. Ideal for anyone who is looking to make significant changes in posture, joint-specific mobility or stability, or recover from chronic repetitive strains, deep tendon injuries, capsular restrictions or scarring. Functional conditioning is eligible for direct billing on plans that have coverage for chiropractic.
Integrative Manual Treatment (RMT)
Integrative treatment by RMT / Osteopathy (DOMP) Candidate Kathleen Funk includes advanced assessment and manual techniques, which may include soft-tissue release, visceral manipulation, Craniosacral therapy, Positional Release, Muscle Energy and Strain/Counterstrain, as well as precision joint mobilizations and manipulative techniques, to facilitate self-regulating mechanisms in the body by addressing areas of tissue strain, stress or inhibition than may impede normal neural and biomechanical functions . Eligible for direct billing or reimbursement under plans with RMT coverage. PLEASE BRING LOOSE, COMFORTABLE CLOTHING OR ATHLETIC WEAR.
Kinesiology
Kinesiology is the study of human movement, performance and function. Kinesiologists use evidence-based research to treat and prevent biomechanical injury and disease, and to improve movement and performance. Kinesiologists work with people of all ages and physical abilities in many settings to help them achieve their health and wellness goals and improve quality of life. Kinesiology is covered by many health benefits plans
Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine is the treatment and prevention of disease by natural means. A number of different approaches may be used throughout the course of treatment. Treatment modalities include diet, lifestyle counselling, clinical nutrition (primary via supplementation), botanical medicine, homeopathy, eastern and Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, hydrotherapy, physical medicine and IV therapy. Most extended health plans include coverage for Naturopathic treatment.
Osteopathic Manual Treatment
Osteopaths are functional anatomists who use manual therapy and gentle manipulations to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulses and the circulation of cardiovascular, digestive, lymphatic and spinal cord fluids. Classical osteopathy considers both soft tissue (fascia, muscles, tendons) and hard tissues (bones, ligaments), while also paying attention to the nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics in the area, and also has consideration for what is happening on the visceral level. With a knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics, osteopaths use just their hands to figure out what isn't functioning normally, and then use gentle manipulations to get the body back into alignment so that it can self heal and regulate. **Treatments are reimbursable by benefits plans that include coverage for treatment by an OOA-licensed Osteopathic Manual Therapist. Direct billing may be available on Medavie Blue Cross and Greenshield plans.**
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists have mastered the mechanics of movement under the Sports Medicine model of care -- they focus on both prevention and rehabilitation of injury, using functional rehabilitation to improve alignment, stability, mobility, and strength. Physiotherapists remedy dysfunctional patterns of movement and posture that affect the body's ability to withstand resistance. Physiotherapy is a great option for chronic pain, repetitive strain, sports injuries, accident rehabilitation, healthy aging, and athletic performance and is eligible for direct billing on most major benefits plans.
Pilates
One-on-one Pilates can help you reach your strength and mobility goals faster than traditional classes and is a great bridging exercise for post-injury patients. Our Pilates instructor can build on your current treatment plan or develop a program based on your individual goals. As you gain strength and flexibility and learn more efficient movement patterns, your instructor will tailor your workouts to your skills to progressively challenge and further your skills. Pilates can help to correct postural and strength imbalances, especially within the core and low back -- which helps to relieve pain and stiffness, improve balance and stability, and help prevent future injuries.
Reflexology (RMT)
Reflexology is a natural therapeutic technique that applies manual pressure on reflex points in the body, based on their map within the body to other areas and tissues, including the glands and organs. Through the application of pressure on these reflexes, the body's own healing and restoration is facilitated. When performed by a skilled RMT, reflexology is eligible for reimbursement on insurance plans with massage therapy coverage.
